Two Types of Hard Drives: Already Crashed, About to Crash

We know you absolutely don’t have the time to back up your data. Maybe next month, but not now. Besides, what are the chances your computer will crash? It’s new. You’re a nice person. Things like that happen to other people (hopefully those in the opposite political party…)

We’re not going to give you “the lecture” on why you should back up your data. Instead, we’re going to make it easy for you.

  • Let’s start with the basics. You should have your data backed up in two places: one that is outside your building (in case of fire, flood, or alien attack); one that is in your office (so you won’t have to shriek nonstop during the time it takes to retrieve your data from your offsite backup.)
  • An easy, quick, relatively inexpensive way to create an offsite backup is via Carbonite (www.carbonite.com) For just $50 per year you can back up an unlimited amount of data, and it is really easy to set up.
  • A simple way to set up onsite data backup is to call us. In short order we can configure your computer so that it automatically (really, you won’t have to do anything) backs up all your data every day onto an external hard drive or a memory stick.

Of course, it takes an hour or two to set up these systems. But compared to the time you’re going to spend trying to replace your lost taxes, family photos, business records, and iTunes collection (including The Best of The Captain and Tennille), it’s virtually no time at all.

Hoping to hear from you before your hard drive crashes, but prepared to help you afterwards too,
